Michel Marin, a Path of Life
Born in Béziers (Hérault 1947), I studied law and political science in Toulouse where I worked as a teacher and then as a lawyer, without moving away from the process that will animate my whole life. I have accumulated my professional activity with the study of the fine arts and learning of the restoration of paintings. At the age of forty, I freed myself of my professional constraints to commit myself full-time in my original vocation: the creative act.
This atypical course will develop creative experiences that are equally atypical. Indeed, various forms of expression and experimentation have built my artistic approach. From 1998 onwards, two to six-month traveling workshops in Vietnam, Canada, the United States, Transiberian, Morocco and the Philippines offered me the opportunity to be open to the world.
That is why, in the eternal list attached to each artist's curriculum, I chose the authenticity of what made the artist that I am today.
In front of the painting, I covered the canvases with a paintbrush burning in experimental series with enamel, oil, acrylic, bleach. My memory is fed by exhibitions in Toulouse, Barcelona, Las Vegas, Ho-chi Minh City, Marrakech which I will recall four events:
1998 - Meeting with Jean Pons on the occasion of an exhibition in Toulouse His advice, our meetings and our epistolary exchanges are the precious stone of my artistic life: "What a place this Michel, with him one breathes the wide open" A phrase which, despite its disappearance, still haunts my work.
1998 - The adventure of BAO LOC in Vietnam, a collective workshop of creation with important Vietnamese artists: Tran van Tao and Tan Cuong, was extended by an exhibition at HCHV in the Museum of the Revolution.
This experience opened the doors of the association of the fine arts of HCMC and galleries
Vietnamese. Many thanks to the association St Henri and the Consulate of France who financed this experiment.
2003 - The Transiberian Journey, 11437 Kilometers through Russia, Mongolia, China and Lake Baikal made me discover the creation in a precarious environment and the joy of extraordinary artistic exchanges at each stopover in Moscow, 'In Ulan Bator or Beijing.
I realized some sixty works on paper exhibited in September 2003 to the association St Henri who had financed the trip.
2005 -The installation of a workshop at the Moulin du Christ in the Aude. The contact with nature has engaged me in an aesthetic dialogue where material, non-color and reflections have built my signature as a painter. I explore an intangible link between the human mind and another level of reality. My works are no longer perceived from the outside but are invented in the inner journey of each one through series: "the metamorphoses of emptiness", "the power of nothing", "artefact", "another world", "gold ".
Faced with words, I have rubbed shoulders with the poetic and the writing world:
1995 - Poems "The paths of sling"
2002 - Roman autofiction "Sortilages"
2003 - Artist Book "Martians Poems"
2005 - Collaboration with the CD of Sandra Le Couteur "La demoiselle du Traversier" as a songwriter
2007 - Collaboration with the CD of Jourdàa as co-author
2008 - Creation of a tale "Cora and magic flash" and creation of a workshop for children of the classes of CM1 and CM2, financed by the Commune of Trebes
2010 - New collaboration with Sandra Le Couteur for the production of her 2nd CD "terre natale" as a composer.
Faced with matter, I have strained stone, wood, ceramics, iron, bronze, glass, a "raw" art with plastic accents:
2001 - Work on stone at the Pons lithography workshop extended by an exhibition and a catalog during the presentation of the PONS collection in Johannesburg
2002 - Ceramic workshop in Vietnam "archeo series"
2003 - Sculptures «splendid wrecks», exhibition and catalog at the Museum of the Revolution at HCMV
2007 - Atelier du verre in Villepinte in the Aude, Exhibition "Arts and Wines", Gallery of Arts in Trèbes.
Faced with technology, I transcribed thoughts and words around the image by the techniques of photography and video:
1998 - Feature film "Couleurs Intimes"
1999 - Short film "Since we are told that we are moving forward"
1997 - Photos "Variations around a model"
2001 - Video "War and Pets"
Faced with myself, I confronted myself in a direct situation to my act and to the public:
1998 - Performance Couac Paris, the world's divan "The body in all its forms"
2000 to 2005 - Creative challenges on-line, funded by the Atlantic Visual Arts Festival (Canada) in the presence of Armand Vaillancourt and Ousmane Sow: "Architectonic Blue", "Rouge vivarium" and other installations.
